Week eight: Advertising and Public Relations- Part One

Media Decisions in Advertising and Public Relations
Smashbox uses product advertising and product placement which reinforces brand awareness and catches consumers attention. They strategize by getting their name known through media, which gives the company TONS of publicity. Smashbox displays product publicity (publicizing specific products or services) through magazines, television, and the internet!
Magazines- Creates excellent reproduction (especially for color), demographic, regional, and local market selectivity, and provides a long advertising life!
Ex: Smashbox has produced many advertisements in tons of popular fashion magazines such as: Glamour, Allure, Los Angeles Confident, Marie Claire, Vogue, Gotham, ELLE, Lucky, InStyle, etc. On most of their ad’s they have a captivating photo, clever slogan, description and benefits of the product, insider secret, price, and where it can be purchased. These ad’s are a great way to get Smashbox’s name out there, and to draw their target market in to purchase their products!
Television- Ability to reach a wide and diverse audience which gives opportunities to do demonstrations which carries out the messaged of the company while providing great entertainment!
Ex: Smashbox is advertised through television on QVC (multinational corporation specializing in televised home shopping). It broadcasts in 5 different countries: US, UK, Germany, Japan, and Italy. The operations run 24 hours a day (although live programming varies between each region). Available through satellite and cable TV.
Ex: Smashbox is also advertised a great deal through the well-known television show America’s Next Top Model (ANTM- reality TV shows in which a number of women compete for the title of ANTM and a chance to start their career in the modeling industry). It is created and hosted by talk-show host and model Tyra Banks! For seasons 06-07, 07-08, and 08-09 ANTM was rated #1 show in average viewers on The CW (TV station). Currently, ANTM is shown on TV Internationally in 170 countries. Throughout the 16 seasons and 195 episodes the show has often used Smashbox Studios for their photo shoots and commercials. ANTM also regularly uses Smashbox Cosmetic products, which promotes Smashbox to all the viewers! HELLLOOO THATS A HECK OF A LOT OF PEOPLE!! :)
Internet- The fastest-growing medium that allows the consumer to access any information about a company or product at just the click of a button.
Ex: Smashbox is advertised on Sephora.com, Smashbox.com, QVC.com, ULTA.com, Nordstroms.com, YouTube, etc.
